2018 Continuing Legal Education Event

The Dripping Springs Community Foundation held its biannual Mandatory Continuing Legal Education/Continuing Professional Education event for local attorneys and accountants on October 1`8, 2018, at SouthStar Bank's Southwest Branch.  It was a half-day continuing education event highlighted by presentations from three outstanding attorneys.  Ross Fischer, General Counsel of the Texas State Bar, led off the morning with a session on 'Ethics When Representing an Entity.'  He was followed by Margaret Menicucci of the law firm of Braun and Gresham with a session on 'Estate Planning and Using Conservation Easements as an Estate Planning Tool.'  The morning was rounded off with a presentation on Community Foundations and the role they can play in legacy gifts and estate planning, delivered by MariBen Ramsey, former General Counsel of the Austin Community Foundation.  The DSCF hosts this event to raise the awareness of local attorneys and CPAs regarding the roles the foundation can play in helping clients meet their estate planning needs.

Christmas Lights Project

The Dripping Springs Visitors Bureau launched in August a campaign to raise funds for new holiday lighting for the downtown Historical District.  To spur them on and to assist in their fundraising, DSCF offered a challenge grant.  DSCF would provide $2,500 when and if the Visitors Bureau raised separately $7,500 toward the project.  The Bureau's campaign exceeded its goal, and Dripping Springs will enjoy a more festive atmosphere downtown in the 2018 holiday season.

Girl Scout Scholarships

Dripping Springs/Wimberley Girl Scouts is the premier leadership development organization for North Hays County area girls, developing confidence, courage, and the necessary character to grow into women with notable leadership qualities and distinction.  In partnership with Dripping Springs Community Foundation, a valuable scholarship program was established in 2011 for our area Girl Scouts.  The Girls Scout Council has developed selection criteria and scoring, seeks donations to support the program, and identifies the recipients.

Three scholarships were awarded in 2017 to these young women, who are excellent models of productive service and leadership developed with girl scout experiences.

• Ashley Bruno, graduated from Penn Academy of Dripping Springs with AP courses from Austin Community College, and was awarded a scholarship of $500 to Texas A&M University for her college studies.   Ashley has contributed over 200 community service hours locally, which does not include her Girl Scout Gold Award project.

• Katelynne Marsan, graduated from Dripping Springs High School and is enrolled at the University of Texas (Austin) in Mechanical Engineering.  Katelynne has been active in Engineering and Science Fairs and competed with her brother in an event in Los Angeles (ISEF). She is an avid scout, participating in Girl Scouts for 12 years as well as the Boy Scouts Venture program (High Adventure activities). Katelynne was awarded a $1250 scholarship towards her college expense.
